Salt Substitution and Cardiovascular Events and Death

Elevated intake of dietary sodium and low intake of dietary potassium are associated with high blood pressure and increased risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. Salt substitutes that replace part of the sodium in regular salt with potassium can lower blood pressure, but whether they are safe and improve cardiovascular outcomes is unclear. New research findings are summarized in a short video.
